Nowadays coffee farmers don’t need to own vast amounts of land to be successful coffee growers. You only need a small acreage with the right elevation and soil to be able to grow Strictly High Ground Coffees and be able to introduce your coffee in the Specialty Coffee markets where there’s a high demand for quality coffee.
What Am I saying?
That you focus your efforts on the needs of a very small niche that demands Strictly High Ground Coffees – Specialty Coffees. You don’t need tons of cash for your operation, and you have full control over your farm. Therefore, you focus on selling quality and not volume. It’s easier to manage quality in a small coffee farm with the right elevation and soil through the farming of Micro lots than manage quality in a huge Coffee Estate.
Specialty Coffees are sold in International Markets - the USA, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Asia (Japan being one of the most demanding markets). But Specialty Coffee is something that is not done randomly, you must start by choosing the right soils and altitudes to grow your Strictly High Ground Coffees. Furthermore, Specialty Coffee markets pay the best prices for green specialty coffee, prices ranging from $3.5 to $7.00 US Dollars per pound it’ll all depend on the Q-grading of your coffee.
The term “Specialty Coffees”, is used to refer to coffees undergoing evaluation by experts (Q-Graders, professional coffee tasters, compared with winemakers), and which achieved grades above 80 points on the scale created by the SCAA, Specialty Coffee Association of America.
